Luxury Sicily Holidays
Sicily, the football to Italy's boot, is the largest of all the islands in the Mediterranean. In addition to its balmy Mediterranean climate, which means hot summers and pleasantly cool winters, Sicily is also the location of three volcanoes, the most famous of which is Mount Etna. If that were not enough, the island has no less than four World Heritage Sites, making it high on the list of destinations for culture seekers. For many holidaymakers, however, Sicily is an island of sandy beaches, olive, orange and lemon groves and some of the best cuisine in the entire Mediterranean.
Sicily has many resorts around its coast, each with its own individual personality. They include Giardini Naxos, Taormina, Ragusa, Trapani, Siracusa, Sciacca, Agrigento and Marsala, not forgetting, of course, Palermo, Sicily's capital.
Things to do in Sicily
It is easy to spend an entire holiday enjoying the lazy beach life, hiring pedalos and lounging next to lidos, enjoying the odd cocktail. On most people's checklist of things to do whilst in Sicily, however, is sure to be a visit to still highly active volcano, Mount Etna. As part of a guided excursion visitors are taken close enough to the crater to feel the heat of the lava. Another hugely popular destination is the picturesque medieval town of Taormina, with its many narrow alleys and steps, fashionable boutiques and vast Greek amphitheatre.
Sicily is immensely popular with luxury holiday enthusiasts, as well as watersports fans who are able to try everything from canoeing and scuba diving to more recent activities, such as kite-surfing and wakeboarding.
