Porto Santo Hotel & Spa
Nested on a soft sandy beach bordering the vast Atlantic ocean, the Porto Santo Hotel and Spa combines comfort and elegance into a haven of luxury. It was the first hotel to be built on the island of Madeira in the 1960s, and has grown to become the island’s most prominent and exclusive holiday resort. Renovated by award-winning architects Eduardo Anahory and Pedro Brammcamp, the architecture and design are truly unique. A new building has been added by architect João Favilla, who has maintained the single lines and unfussy décor of the original, adding a spa and villas. Complete relaxation is the primary concern at this stylish yet unassuming hotel, nestling in the sand dunes just steps away from Porto Santo’s golden sandy beach. Lounge and enjoy the beautiful weather as you sip exotic cocktails, or indulge in a long-awaited spa experience.
Designed by distinguished architects Eduardo Anahory and Pedro Brammcamp, the 97 guest rooms exude a luxurious ambience. Large windows provide plenty of natural lighting, and exclusive high quality beds promise excellent quality of sleep. Guests can expect to find private bathrooms, a private balcony offering an unparalleled view of the surrounding area, as well as modern amenities such as cable television, complementary Wi-Fi, and climate control. The aim of the project that inspired the Porto Santo Hotel & Spa’s guest rooms was to promote the continuity of the architectural features seen on the original building. This is expressed in the preservation of designer bedrooms, and house furniture. Fresh, simple and tranquil décor create a sense of well being and calm. Five new luxury villas were recently added, and have the intimacy and charm of a private residence. These deluxe villas offer a generous amount of floor space as well as a private garden and a living room.
The on-site restaurant at the Porto Santo Hotel & Spa promises only the best; exquisitely prepared local and international dishes, made using the freshest locally sourced ingredients. Guests can enjoy fine Portuguese cuisine, in addition to unique and authentic Madeira specialities, accompanied by one of the hotel’s selected wines. A rich variety of international cuisine makes sure no taste is left unsatisfied. In the morning guests are encouraged to indulge in the Hotel Porto Santo & Spa buffet breakfast, which features a large variety of differing breakfast alternatives. For the evenings, guests can head over to the stylish beach bar, an ideal place to enjoy a couple of drinks while watching the sunset and engaging in some light social activity.
Direct access to a picturesque sandy beach is just one of the outstanding features of this hotel. Guests can spend the days basking in the sunshine, and cooling off in the refreshing waters of the Atlantic ocean. The hotel’s infinity pool and sun terrace overlook the magnificent beach, and offer spectacular views of the surrounding area, as well as another opportunity for a relaxing swim.
Mini golf and table tennis facilities are present, and guests are invited to make use of these, along with a well equipped gym. A modern layout, warm ambient lighting, and a stunning indoor garden create an air of privacy and calm. The spa also features two massage rooms and designated relaxing areas.
