Cascais is a coastal town located about 30 kilometres west of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, so the city is very accessible. Once known only as a humble fishing village, Cascais and its fortunes improved after visits by the Portuguese royal family in the late 19th and early 20th century, bringing with them fame and good fortune. Now a popular vacation destination for both local holidaymakers and foreign visitors, Cascais is also an historic centre with castle ruins as well as art and maritime museums.
