The wild hotel ideal

Cosmopolitan Mykonos may be all about beach clubs and late nights out, but you wouldn’t know it when you’re at The Wild. Set on the island’s quieter side (but just 20 minutes’ drive from Mykonos Town), this effortlessly chic retreat is an unpretentious alternative to the see-and-be-seen vibe for which Mykonos is famed. Here, the atmosphere is one of privacy and seclusion. Blessed with its own sandy cove where “the Wild Ones” – the most fearless fishermen of Mykonos – once kept their boats, The Wild is a tasteful, tranquil hideaway that celebrates the isle as it used to be: raw, simple, beautiful and wild.

Suites & Villas

Our 40 luxurious guestrooms, villas and suites enjoy epic sea views. Whether larger or smaller, with 1 or 2 bedrooms, or even plunge pools and dining spaces, each accommodation has its own distinguished flair and is finished with natural materials in a restful, earthy palette. Bare wood, rough stone, moulded clay, terracotta and whitewashed plaster are respectful of traditional Cycladic style. Completing the look are beautiful, high-end designer furnishings alongside handmade lamps, artisanal objects, antiques and quality fabrics. From woven baskets to compact speakers and comfortable couches, every detail makes a difference. It’s simplicity at its finest

Beach & Pool

a true cycladic experience

You’ll struggle to tear yourself away from the cliff-hugging, sky-blue infinity pool, which acts as the property’s centrepiece. The views from here across the Aegean Sea towards Naxos are stunning; but something even more special lies at the bottom of the cliff. Here, The Wild’s secret cove offers lazy lounging and lovely sea swims in a spot that’s perfectly sheltered from summertime winds. Both beach and pool are furnished with bamboo beds and palm-thatched parasols for a stylishly laid-back, bohemian ambiance; and both are serviced with cocktails, coffee, fresh-squeezed juices and healthy lunches or snacks from the on-site taverna.

Something delicious…

The same attention to detail that’s lavished on the hotel’s look is carried through to The Wild’s two restaurants. Breakfast is served poolside at the Taverna, with the breeze gently rustling the tamarisk trees. An all-day menu featuring burgers, soulvlaki and salads can be enjoyed by the pool or without leaving your lounger on the beach. In the evening, stick with The Taverna’s re-imagined Greek cuisine, or mix things up at Raw: a unique dining concept offering Greek-Japanese fusion sushi. It’s as glamorous as any Myconian beach club, but at prices that won’t make you weep.

Raw

The Wild’s second restaurant, Raw, specialises in Greek-Japanese cuisine under the expertise of chef Kazuaki Shitamori. Open only for dinner, Raw offers flavoursome sushi, ceviche and seasonal salads created, as with the taverna, from regional ingredients. Start with a summer breeze cocktail flavoured with pepper, pineapple and ginger; then dive into catch-of-the-day ceviche with watermelon and lime, or maki rolls with a Mediterranean twist. Tables are scattered across tiny terraces carved into the cliff, making the dining experience at Raw quite unique. Lit at first by sunset and, later, by lanterns and starlight reflecting off the sea, this is truly the most magical of spots.

The Taverna

The slow food philosophy takes centre stage at The Wild’s authentic taverna, where our chefs support island farms when sourcing ingredients. This ensures hyper-local vegetables, louza (cured meat) and graviera cheese, plus hard-baked Mykonian rusks for garden-fresh Cycladic salads. Breakfast features homemade breads and fresh-pressed power smoothies, while dinnertime favourites might include giouvetsi with shrimp or lamb wrapped in vine leaves. Our hand-crafted cocktails are perfect for pretty much any time of day; and it’s all served poolside on rough-hewn tables to enhance that sense of bohemian chic. Vegan and vegetarian diets are comfortably accommodated.

The storyline

Leaders in the design sector in Greece for over 30 years through Moda Bagno and Interni, founded

by their father, Nikos Varveris, and representing high-end brands as well as exclusive crafted pieces,

the two brothers learned from a young age to appreciate the value of quality, luxury and design. Travellers themselves and culinary lovers, they were also keen on embracing the value of hospitality. “Our home has always been open to friends. Guests were constantly on the agenda and in our holiday house in Mykonos

our father was usually found in the kitchen cooking for 20 or 30 people,” Alex recalls.

In 1997 they introduced the renowned Interni Restaurant designed by Paola Navone, opening

a new chapter in the family business that today includes the management of The Grand by Interni on the rooftop of Grand Hyatt Athens, Twenty Two restaurant in Metropol Palace, Belgrade and Twentyone in Athens “We were always captivated by people, hotels and good taste. A hotel in Mykonos was a natural next step for us; however, it took time to find the perfect place that could turn our dream into reality,” Alex explains. “We fell in love with the spot on site and, together with our partners and architects Sofia Apergi and Matina Karava, we designed a unique destination hotel.

Our background in design combined with the talent of our architects and the craftsmanship of the construction company that developed the property (Airtec | Vasilis Karavas) resulted in this unique mélange of Mediterranean essence. The Wild is a “living entity”. We never rest. Every year we introduce new experiences and constantly add something new – from a Baxter chair to an antique piece, a kilim or a handcrafted object renewing the decoration and the overall feeling of the place. It is like a work in progress, which is never completed. Instead it evolves with us and with time” he continues

Wild at heart

The Wild is an expression of the philosophy and eclectic taste of the Varveris family, true lovers of Mykonos island. “We wanted to preserve the emotions and the island exhales To incorporate the experience

of “our” Mykonos in a place – wild at heart, mesmerising, unspoilt, nonchalant and, at the same time, filled with culture, excitement and cosmopolitan flair. The energy of this tiny Cycladic island that artists and bon vivants, free spirits and insightful travellers, have fallen in love with for decades,” Philip Varveris explains. He and his older brother Alex are the creative forces behind the Wild curators of the hotel’s concept and design. “Along with a team of remarkable people,” they add.
