The Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshop) was a melting pot of fine and applied art that gave a completely new perspective on life, freed from the shackles of the past. The interpretation of Art Nouveau by the Viennese “Jugendstil” artists, broke both the boundaries of banal, everyday objects and complex architectural challenge. They experimented with all conceivable manner of materials and surface textures. The innovations and ideas of Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte are invoked by architects, artists and designers to this very day.
